Exploration Sciences Apprenticeship Program (ESAP)

Expand your horizons and advance your potential by joining us as an engineering apprentice.  Gain valuable experience working alongside our senior staff and partners as we help mentor you during development of new space flight and deep ocean scientific exploration projects.  Weave your interests in engineering, applied research, and technology development into our current and emerging project needs and opportunities.  Evolve your longer term interests and goals jointly with ours, as we expand future engineering development activities that advance exploration of outer space, deep oceans and inner EarthOur primary goal is to help you succeed, by mentoring and guiding your applied engineering career development while advancing our partner's scientific development projects.

We have opportunities for three types of Apprenticeships.

PostDoc Apprenticeships. Ideal candidates will be current doctoral candidates or recent graduates holding a PhD in relevant engineering technical disciplines including aerospace, mechanical, thermal, electrical, controls or systems. Our hiring decision factors for these positions also include your interest and ability to lead critical technical aspects of our scientific exploration development projects under the mentoring of our senior staff, as well as to advance your applied engineering skills to a subject matter expert level of proficiency over time. Some prior relevant work experience is required for these positions.

Graduate Apprenticeships. Ideal candidates will be graduate students or recent graduates holding a Master's degree in relevant engineering technical disciplines including aerospace, mechanical, thermal, electrical, controls or systems. Our hiring decision factors for these positions also include your ability to apply your skills effectively on our scientific exploration development projects, as well as your interest in advancing your applied engineering skills. Prior related work experience is a plus but is not required for these positions.

Undergraduate Apprenticeships. Ideal candidates will be undergraduate students or recent undergraduates holding a Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering technical disciplines including aerospace, mechanical, thermal, electrical, controls, systems or technology. In addition, technicians currently enrolled in any relevant applied technology or engineering program at community colleges or universities are strongly encouraged to apply for these positions. Our hiring decision factors for these positions include your interest in working with our staff and partners to apply your technical skills on advancing our scientific exploration development projects, as well as your interest in advancing your applied engineering skills. Prior work experience is not required for these positions.
